SA Kids is a parenting magazine, published in South Australia. An ongoing feature in the magazine has been the story of baby Stone.  The story began before Stone was born and has been updated in each monthly (and now bi-monthly) edition.

The weekly cartoon on the Pro Bono website is usually inspired by posts on their news page.

Pro Bono is Australia’s leading online news service for the Not for Profit sector.

Water on the Moon!   Water on Mars!   Earth-like planets out there!

As this planet fails to meet our expectations some of us seem to be comforted by the idea that we could ‘trade up’, move on to something a little better.

I don’t think they intend taking all of us with them of course.

The cheaper option is to find some alien life out there that in some way could rescue us … from ourselves.

No one asks for gratuitous ideas but here you go …

Each month I send two or three draft cartoon ideas to the New Internationalist editors. They can select which one will suit. The cartoon needs to ‘work’ of course. It also needs to still be topical in six weeks time – when the issue being prepared comes out. That is tricky.

The rough drafts are real ‘cartoons’ in the original sense of the word – sketched out preliminary drawings for some finished art work. It’s a bit odd but they often look more fresh and lively  than the finished cartoon.

Here’s a rough draft of the one that didn’t get the nod for the issue-after-next’s cartoon….

Pro Bono Australia publishes the Guide to Giving, Australia’s directory of Charities and Not for Profit Organisations.

They are Australia’s leading online News Service for the Not for Profit Sector, along with charity jobs and volunteer opportunities, events, and a directory of specialist suppliers for charities.

Pro Bono News has a weekly Kneebone cartoon take on an aspect of the Not For Profit sector. Click on the NFP Kneebone panel on the Pro Bono news page (or on the one below) to see this week’s cartoon.
