It’s a bird, it’s a plane …it’s a life saver

Brian Lim and his small team at Wise Networking have been innovating an air-deployable mobile cell network solution – a miniature mobile phone tower that can be air dropped into a disaster area to quickly restore mobile coverage. Each miniature tower sits within its ‘Gyrochute’ which gently drops the tower to the ground. Read the full story featured in this month’s International Fire Fighter Magazine, pages 84-86, and watch the prototype Gyrochute in action here. These are some of the drawings to help explain the concept and its potential.

Latest Issues ….

Independence Educational Publishers (UK) publish Issues ‘a unique series of cross-curricular resource books for 14- to 18-year-olds. The series explores contemporary social issues, stimulating debate and critical thinking among readers of all levels.‘ As well as other illustrations each book has a number of cartoons specially drawn by cartoonists Angelo Madrid, Don Hatcher and myself. The latest books in the series are Euthanasia, Population Change, The Gender Equality Debate, Crime in the UK, Discussing Abortion and Tourism Today … this last book a little ironic considering the present state of things. A few of my cartoons…

What it took …

My sister and her partner live on Kangaroo Island, South Australia.  She sketched this idea, which I drew up, to show ‘the team’: the local farmers, neighbours and firefighters  who defended their bit of the Island for 10 days during the bushfires. They will each get a copy.

Well-being and Care posters for Equitation Science International and Horse SA.  The principles apply to the care of elephants as well as horses.  The information developed (and the posters evolved) from workshops Dr Andrew McLean of ESI held in Asia and Australia. Dr Andrew McLean: “Equitation science is an extremely exciting new field, changing the traditional methods of horse training to a clear, ethical and systematic approach.”
