‘Political advocacy is an essential task for charities and is something that must be protected’, Greenpeace’s response to comments by Senator James Mcgrath that the charity should be stripped of its tax deductible donations status. Assistant Minister for Charities Zed Seselja said “I would expect all organisations who are subsidised by the taxpayer to act in line with their obligations and in line with the expectations of the public,” – read the post on the Pro Bono website here. The government is gagging any suggestion that climate change has any involvement in the  disastrous bushfires across the country.  As well, denial to the realisation that Australia’s – mostly volunteer –  firefighting organisations will need greatly increased support and resources in the years ahead as climate change transforms the country.
