Machines can do most of a psychologist’s job. The industry must prepare for disruption. There are 39,000 registered psychologists working in Australia and there are 122,000 members of the American Psychological Association. With the advent of Artificial Intelligence how many will have full employment within the next decade?

University of South Australia Adjunct Professor Mike Innes developed the original concept for this comic. Together with Macquarie University Senior Lecturer, Organisational Psychology, Ben Morrison, they have been alerting psychologists, students and anyone considering psychology as a career, to the impact AI is going to have on the profession.

Many years ago Mike Innes was my honours supervisor. Working with him on this project has been wonderful fun!

Independence Educational Publishers UK publish Issues, a series of resource books, now containing over 70 titles, covering a variety of subjects, used primarily by librarians and teachers to help their students gain a better understanding of the world around them and the issues which affect their lives. The Health Excellence Accelerator Lab (HEAL) in the QUT Design Lab has been working with Clinical Excellence Queensland (CEQ) to bring design thinking to wicked problems across Queensland Health. Eighteen projects were presented at a symposium this month showcasing the value of putting designers into healthcare. The event was followed by a workshop stepping through the process of human centred design. The on-the-spot cartoons attempted to capture just something of the tumble of ideas.

Independence Educational publishers UK produce Issues a series of high quality cross-curricular resource books for secondary school students. Six new books in the series have just been published: Active citizenship, Bullying, Business, Health & fitness, Waste & recycling and Privacy. Each book includes a number of cartoon illustrations by cartoonists Angelo Madrid and myself. Some of my illustrations are below.
