I was cartoonist at the Pacific Regional Debt Conference, April 5-8th: ‘The debt and fiscal sustainability challenges of the Pacific Small Island Developing States (PSIDS) have been aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic, severely reducing government revenues to finance increased government expenditures.’

The Health Excellence Accelerator Lab (HEAL) in the QUT Design Lab has been working with Clinical Excellence Queensland (CEQ) to bring design thinking to wicked problems across Queensland Health. Eighteen projects were presented at a symposium this month showcasing the value of putting designers into healthcare. The event was followed by a workshop stepping through the process of human centred design. The on-the-spot cartoons attempted to capture just something of the tumble of ideas.

Out of the blue, A virtual journey through resilience, reimagining and recovery for higher education in the new coronavirus distorted world. A few of the cartoons recording the CAULLT (Council of Australasian University Leaders in Learning and Teaching) virtual conference, 12 & 13 November – disruption, adaption, the value of AI and re-assessing assessment.

One of the Municipal Association of Victoria’s annual conferences is its national two day The Future of Communities: Power to the People conference.  I was there as cartoonist, listening and trying to get as much of the sessions into cartoons as I could.  The cartoon above does sum up my impression of the conference.  At first it didn’t have the ‘Woohoo!’  Without it the the cartoon seemed to say ‘Oh oh, what have we done?’; that wasn’t what I saw.  Adding the ‘Woohoo!’ DOES express what the 250 upbeat and enthusiastic conference participants and presenters showed over the two days.  It was a great experience!

The event was facilitated by the quite amazing Peter Kenyon, director of The Bank of Ideas. The complete set of cartoons can be found on their Facebook page. Here are a few of the cartoons…
